Motorcycle suspension is about more than a single setting
The fork and rear shock play a direct role in controlling motorcycle movement, managing load transfer and allowing the wheels to follow changes in the road or terrain. How they need to work depends on several factors, including the motorcycle itself, rider and load, riding conditions and intended use.
This is why there is no single motorcycle suspension setup that suits every bike and every rider. An Adventure bike used off-road places different demands on its suspension from an Enduro or Motocross bike, while road and sports motorcycles have their own requirements.
At WS Suspension, the first distinction is between the condition of the suspension components and the behaviour the rider wants from the bike. This helps determine whether the priority is servicing, setup or more specific suspension preparation.
Does the suspension need servicing or setting up?
If suspension performance has deteriorated, there are signs of wear or the components require maintenance, the starting point is motorcycle suspension servicing.
If the fork and shock are in suitable working condition but their behaviour needs to be better matched to the motorcycle, rider or type of riding, the focus moves towards suspension setup and tuning.
These requirements can overlap, but they are not the same. Restoring a suspension component to proper working condition and adapting suspension behaviour to a particular rider or use are two different objectives.
Different motorcycles place different demands on suspension
Suspension requirements change substantially with the way a motorcycle is used. Off-road riding requires the suspension to deal with uneven terrain and rapidly changing loads. On the road, stability, comfort and control of weight transfer become important, while sports riding introduces different speeds, loads and demands for precision.

The fork, rear shock and setup need to work as a system
Focusing on one adjustment without considering the overall behaviour of the motorcycle can be misleading. Chassis attitude, load distribution, suspension characteristics and available adjustments interact with one another.
